About CCD

Farmers and horticulturists have concern over the threat of disappearing bee colonies. Since 2006, 24 states have reported instances of Colony Collapse Disorder or CCD; similar experiences have been documented in many countries across Europe and Asia.

CCD occurs when adult worker bees suddenly and mysteriously start abandoning their hives in droves. When honey bees leave, the hive quickly becomes unsustainable and dies. This causes detrimental impact on colonization and pollination that in turn, creates severe economic repercussions in the agriculture industry.

In the year 2000, Cornell University performed a detailed study and found that $15 billion in crop value is wholly dependant on the pollination of honey bees. The causes of CCD are still unknown. CCD research is already underway at several major universities around the world, such as the CCD Research Team at Penn State.

Let it Bee Jewelry’s mission is to raise awareness around CCD, and to help fund research to diagnose and hopefully resolve this mysterious disorder that seriously threatens our agriculture and food supply chain.

Let it Bee’s brand and product line reflects Let It Bee Jewelry’s commitment to helping resolve a serious environmental and agricultural issue. Without an understanding of the causes of CCD, researchers will be unable to develop a workable resolution.
